RESUMO

A digital library is a digital information resource system supported by modern high technology, a next-generation information resource management model on the Internet, and the result of the digitization of library collections, and with the development of society and the accelerated pace of people's lives, people cannot spend too much time classifying and finding books, so the study of book classification and quick finding in university libraries is very important. This paper mainly researches and analyzes the classification and quick search of books in the university library through the algorithms and methods of digital information technology and finds a better algorithm. This paper mainly conducts experiments on automatic text and support vector machine (one-to-many and global optimization) methods and compares the obtained experimental data, such as classification accuracy, classification time, search time, and other data. The experimental results show that the classification accuracy of these three classification methods is in the range of 86%-94%. However, compared with the two methods of automatic text classification and one-to-many classification, the global optimization classification has the highest accuracy in the sample size of each interval. Among them, the classification time is the lowest for automatic text classification, which is less than 30s, and the one-to-many classification sample takes the most time, and their average fitness is in the range of 24%-27%.

ABSTRACT Article that seeks to identify the perception of library science students, regarding the usefulness of the application of teaching materials in the elaboration of summaries and classification documentaries. The lack of generation of teaching material for the practical teaching of library science is evident. To achieve the goal, a descriptive investigation with quantitative approach is carried out, in which a questionnaire was applied to 24 students of the School of Library and Information Sciences of the University of Costa Rica, enrolled in the Indexing and Classification courses during the year 2018. The results show that the teaching materials were perceived as useful by the students, the structure for abstracts facilitated its preparation to 70,8% of the students; however, they recommend that a more flexible structure be provided to adapt it to different types of documents and summaries. In addition, the application of the "Junior Color Code" provided 91,7% of students with an understanding of the document classification process. The application of the table structure facilitated the application of the document classification process to 87,5% of the students. It is recommended to use the teaching resources to summarize and classify only at the beginning of the process, while the practical bases are acquired.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: To evaluate how the veterinary profession is represented in nonfiction children's books and determine whether representations reflect the current veterinary profession or the demographics of the United States. DESIGN: Survey. SAMPLE: Covers of 46 nonfiction children's books and contents of 45 nonfiction children's books. PROCEDURES: Book covers and book contents (images and text) were evaluated for representations of veterinarians and to identify settings, clients, technology and equipment, and animals portrayed. Book contents were additionally evaluated to identify specialties and career opportunities specifically mentioned in the text. RESULTS: Book covers predominantly portrayed veterinarians as Caucasian women who wore examination coats, worked alone in veterinary clinics, and cared for dogs without a client present. Book contents predominantly portrayed veterinarians as a Caucasian man or woman who wore an examination coat, worked as part of a team in a veterinary clinic, and helped clients care for dogs, cats, and exotic animals. Specialties and career opportunities in the veterinary profession were mentioned in the text of 29 of 45 (64.4%) books. CONCLUSIONS AND CLINICAL RELEVANCE: Nonfiction children's book covers that focused on the veterinary profession portrayed a greater percentage of women than is currently found in the profession. Similarly, books portrayed a greater percentage of Caucasians than in the current or predicted US population. With the exception of Asians, books collectively represented lower or similar percentages of underrepresented minorities, compared with the US population. Veterinarians are encouraged to select books for individual children that portray veterinarians with whom the children can identify.

RESUMO

Shifts in interest toward cosmetic and surgical dermatology and away from medical and academic dermatology have been observed in recent years. We hypothesized that this trend would be evident in the types of books available for purchase from a major medical textbook supplier. Books published from 1998-2008 were categorized by type and statistical testing was performed to determine if this trend has been reflected in books published. The percentage of medical dermatology books decreased over time, whereas the percentage of cosmetic and surgical dermatology books increased over time.

RESUMO

The classification of ancient works of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) had a long history. Some ancient comprehensive bibliographies such as Han shu yi wen zhi, Sui shu jing ji zhi, Tong zhi yi wen lue, Guo shi jing ji zhi have different classification methods in ancient medical works, reflecting the different cognitions of the compiler on the contents attribute of ancient medical works. The modern classification method of medical works of TCM is still a project for further study. Reviewing the previous catalogue and classification methods of medical works can provide references and guides for future collating and research works of TCM books and literature.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVES: To explore whether the presence of online tables of contents (TOC) in an online catalog affects circulation (checkouts and inhouse usage). Two major questions were posed: (1) did the presence of online tables of contents for books increase use, and, (2) if it did, what factors might cause the increase? METHOD: A randomized and stratified design was used in tracking usage of 3,957 book titles that were previously divided into two groups: one with TOC and one without TOC. Stratification was done for year of imprint, location, subject, previous use, circulating or non-circulating status, and presence of TOC. The use was tracked by the online catalog statistics in the InnoPac online catalog for fourteen months. RESULTS: The study found that tables of contents do increase usage. It also showed a correlation in the size of the effect based on the currency of the titles. In general, even after adjusting for all of the variables (publication date, location, circulation status, subject, and previous use), the odds of a title being used increased by 45% if the titles had online tables of contents, a statistically significant impact at the 0.05 level. CONCLUSIONS: This case-control study presents new information about the impact on circulation and inhouse use when tables of contents for books are added to the online catalog record. The study helps to establish the positive role of tables of contents in online catalogs. The research establishes TOC as a major parameter that can be successfully studied using quantitative methods. The study also provides information professionals with some guidance on when enhancement of TOC is likely to be most effective in increasing the use of existing collections.

OBJECTIVE: This article brings to the present earlier bibliographies of books written by former mental patients. These books provide an inside view of mental disorder that can be useful in teaching, public education, theory, and research, and they have played a catalyzing role in mental health reform and in theory development. METHOD: The authors list seven anthologies and 48 autobiographies of former patients published since 1980 and introduce a classification system intended to increase the research value of this important archive. RESULTS: Recent books of this genre show more individuals with a mood disorder and more therapists and more women as authors. CONCLUSIONS: The research potential of these books suggests the value of an electronic database for classifying and retrieving the information they contain.

RESUMO

We describe a unified catalog of traditional and digital resources in medical informatics, using standard cataloging principles (AACR2), schemes (LCC), and coding formats (USMARC). The unified catalog integrates the bibliographic records of physical items in the heterogeneous collection with the bibliographic records of network accessible digital items, using prescribed cataloging formats to new effect. The unified catalog is collections-based. We do not use the MARC 856 field to specify the network location of a digital item. The location of a digital item is determined by mapping its call number through a location guide to a network address. This mapping is strictly isomorphic to the way the shelf location of a physical item is determined within the bounds of a controlled collection.

RESUMO

Explicit verbal comparisons in 53 popular children's books were syntactically and semantically classified. Comparison types found in these books were contrasted with comparisons used as comprehension stimuli in extant developmental research. Although noun-phrase metaphor has been a popular syntactic form in research, it is a rare form in children's literature. Implications for the design of future stimulus sets are discussed.
